Premier League giants Chelsea have improved their offer for AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli, Il Corriere dello Sport has claimed.
The Blues had started the bidding at €25 million, but are now believed to have raised their offer to whopping €40 million.
Chelsea have identified the talented centre-back as a perfect long-term replacement for John Terry and they seem determined to bring him to Stamford Bridge before the summer transfer window deadline.
AC Milan are not exactly keen on selling their prized asset, but they could consider a higher offer due to the fact that they need funds from the sale to further reinforce the squad.
The Rossoneri were hoping to cash in on Carlos Bacca, but the Colombian rejected a move to West Ham, and Alessio Romagnoli is the only footballer in the squad that can generate substantial profit.
The 21-year-old has largely impressed in his debut season at San Siro, having joined from Roma, quickly justifying his €25 million price tag.
