Veteran goalkeeper Henrique Hilario has signed a new one-year deal with Chelsea, according to Sky Sports.
The 37 year old had looked to be on his way out of the club after being named on the list of players who were released at the end of last season, though he was named in Chelsea’s 25 man squad that travelled to the United States for their pre-season tour.
Hilario was signed by Jose Mourinho during his first spell at Stamford Bridge, with the pair having worked together briefly at Porto during the 2003/04 campaign.
He has played thirty-nine times in all competitions for the club, keeping eighteen clean sheets, though he hasn’t made a first team appearance in almost two years, largely due to the consistency of Petr Cech.
He is once again likely to be the Blues third choice goalkeeper, with Cech and recent signing Mark Schwarzer set to be ahead of him in the pecking order for the forthcoming season.
