According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Chelsea have reached an agreement with Mauricio Pochettino, who is now set to become the Blues head coach at the end of the season. In the meantime, the former Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain boss will collaborate with interim boss Frank Lampard.
Chelsea have been searching for the right man for the job since sacking Graham Potter in April. They’ve reportedly held talks with several candidates and seriously considered former RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann at one point, but the negotiations eventually fell through, and they turned to Pochettino.
Chelsea have had an extremely difficult season despite investing well over €600 million in their squad in the last two transfer windows, breaking the Premier League record in the process by signing Enzo Fernandez from Benfica for €120m. They parted ways first with Thomas Tuchel and replaced him with Potter, but the former Brighton boss failed to impress too. Consequently, the Blues are set to miss out on European football completely next season, and the appointment of Pochettino will surely be a good chance for a fresh start.
