Chelsea have reached an agreement for the free transfer of Thiago Silva from Paris Saint-Germain, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Having signed winger Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and striker Timo Werner from RB Leipzig, the London Blues are reportedly close to completing the transfer of Bayer Leverkusen forward Kai Havertz. However, it seems Silva will arrive to Stamford Bridge before the Germany international, with manager Frank Lampard obviously aware of the need to strengthen his back line too.
PSG boss Thomas Tuchel revealed after the defeat in the Champions League final that the Ligue 1 title holders would seek to persuade the veteran defender to remain at the Parc des Princes and sign a new contract, but it appears it’s too late for that now. The 35-year-old centre-back himself confirmed a few days ago that Fiorentina were also an option, but Romano claims that option no longer exists.
Silva accepted an offer of a two-year contract from Chelsea and the deal is expected to be officially confirmed in a matter of days.
