It is no secret that Premier League giants Chelsea are facing an injury crisis in central midfield and manager Antonio Conte will look to solve the Blues’ problems with a £71.5m bid for Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez, according to Don Balon.
The 22-year old midfielder has been one of Atleti’s stand-out players in recent seasons and has displayed excellent versatility, playing both centrally and as a right-sided midfielder. The Spaniard also has a knack for scoring crucial goals, the most memorable of which was his superb solo dribble and finish in the semi-final of the 2016 Champions League against Bayern Munich.
Chelsea are in desperate need of midfielders after the London club sold Nemanja Matic to rivals Manchester United in the summer. The Blues signed Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater to replace the Serbian but both have been plagued by injury already this season. N’Golo Kante has also recently been ruled out for a month and these injuries have impacted Antonio Conte’s side’s form.
It seems unlikely that Atletico Madrid would let Saul leave for much less than his £134m release clause but Chelsea certainly need to act quickly to end their midfield woes.
