Chelsea reignite their interest in Diego Godin

Chelsea are weighing up a move for Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin, The Sun has revealed.

The Blues have been tracking the Uruguayan defender for quite some time, with former manager Carlo Ancelotti having a £15 million bid rejected last January.

His successor Andre Villas-Boas also rates the 25-year-old highly and is expected to launch a fresh bid in January.

The Portuguese manager is not entirely satisfied with his defensive options and is eager to add Godin to the squad in January.

Villas-Boas is hoping to finance part of the deal by selling Brazilian defender Alex.

Alex appears to be on the fringes at Stamford Bridge and the Blues are hoping to sell him in January.

The 29-year-old has a long list of suitors, which include Arsenal and Tottenham, but also Russian Premier League sides Anzhi and Terek.
