The Sun are today reporting that Manchester City have had a shock £30 million bid for Chelsea defender David Luiz rejected.
It is thought that Roberto Mancini wants to strengthen his defensive options as versatile defender Micah Richards is set to be sidelined for ten weeks with injury, something which is a big blow for him.
Chelsea are of course not willing to sell to an English Premier League rival and if the Citizens did want to secure his services, then they would need to increase their offer massively.
The Brazilian arrived for £21 million in January 2011 and has become a hit with the fans since arriving at Stamford Bridge.
He was a key figure in helping the side to both Champions League and FA Cup success last season and is a massive part of Roberto Di Matteo’s plans for this campaign.
Mancini may need to enter the transfer market yet again and try and lure another defender to the Ethiad Stadium.
It is unlikely that he will be willing to increase the offer that he made for Luiz.
The central-defender missed Chelsea’s win over Reading on Wednesday evening but is likely to feature in this weekend’s encounter at home to Newcastle.
