Chelsea are still interested in signing Sevilla defender Jules Kounde, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The London Blues tried hard to make this transfer happen last summer, and at one point the player was very keen on the idea, but the two clubs eventually failed to reach an agreement with Chelsea unwilling to match Sevilla’s asking price.
Things haven’t change regarding the potential transfer fee. Sevilla still want the release clause in the 23-year-old’s contract to be met, which means they wouldn’t accept any offers under €80 million. On the other hand, set to lose both Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger for free at the end of the season, Chelsea might be more willing to open up with the cash this time around, providing their ownership issues are resolved in time.
However, Chelsea are also believed to be considering alternative targets for their centre-back department, in case Kounde proves unobtainable once more.
Chelsea are still considering Jules Koundé as one of the potential targets, he’s among 3/4 options on the CB list. Tuchel’s big fan of Koundé since two years. 🔵 #CFC
Sevilla always asked for €80m as release clause price – while Chelsea will lose both Rüdiger & Christensen.
