Chelsea have informed Callum Hudson-Odoi that they will not sell him this summer, regardless of whether he signs a new contract or not, according to The Times. The decision could end up costing the London Blues tens of millions of pounds in the transfer market.
Chelsea have been slapped with a two-window transfer ban (pending a hearing) and are therefore keen to keep all the players they can keep. With Eden Hazard looking more likely to be an exception to the rule in light of a strong interest from Real Madrid, the need to keep hold of Hudson-Odoi, who recently made his international debut, grows stronger.
Bayern Munich, who tried to sign the 18-year-old in January, are preparing to have another go in the summer, and they will face competition from Manchester United, but Chelsea’s stance is unlikely to change.
The decision of England manager Gareth Southgate to include the young forward in his team has made Hudson-Odoi’s desire to leave Stamford Bridge even stronger than before, with first-team minutes crucial for his status as an international.
