According to the Mirror, Chelsea have decided to enter the fray for the signature of Spurs defender Toby Alderweireld.
Despite being fully fit, the Belgian has been left out of matchday involvement recently, which has added fuel to an already growing fire of reports linking him to various clubs.
His current contract includes a £25 million release clause that comes into effect in 2019, and if a new deal isn’t agreed soon, Spurs may well be forced to part with the player now in order to get a better price. The new deal hasn’t been struck yet because, reportedly, Alderweireld demands a wage of at least £150,000 per week, a wage in the area of that of Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk. And that is something the North-London club aren’t willing to accept.
Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are also believed to be interested in the centre-back, both being clubs that can certainly afford to pay the wages Alderweireld demands from Spurs.
