According to a recent report from Sky Sports, Derby County are going to demand £4 million in order for Chelsea to make Frank Lampard their new manager. This is due to a contract clause, as the rumours grow stronger that he is going to be heading back to Stamford Bridge. The Blues have not yet made a formal approach, but the Rams are set for an enquiry of some sort now that Maurizio Sarri has been confirmed as the new manager of Juventus (or soon to be). Any club willing to take Lampard on will need to pay £3.5 million in compensation to Derby County, which is a figure that will rise to £4 million if the club in question is set to play Champions League football.
It’s going to be a long saga, and the odds are that it’s also going to be pretty stressful – because let’s face it, bringing in Lampard is a risk.
The former Chelsea midfielder was able to guide Derby to the Championship playoff final, where they lost to Aston Villa.
