Chelsea want Marco van Ginkel; Varela joins Man Utd on five-year deal

The agent of Vitesse Arnhem midfielder Marco van Ginkel, Karel Jansen, has confirmed Chelsea's interest in the Holland international.

The agent of Vitesse Arnhem midfielder Marco van Ginkel, Karel Jansen, has confirmed Chelsea’s interest in the Holland international, Sky Sports understands.

Van Ginkel, who is currently representing the Holland Under-21 team at the European Championships in Israel, is reportedly attracting interest from a number of European clubs, including Dutch Eredivisie giants AFC Ajax.

However, Chelsea are believed to be leading the race for the highly-rated 20-year-old due to their close relationship with Vitesse.

Van Ginkel, whose current deal expires in the summer of 2015, is flattered by the Blues’ interest, but remains focused on the Under-21 Euros.

“Chelsea are interested, we don’t deny it,” Jansen told De Telegraaf.

“But there are more clubs. Ajax had made official contact with Vitesse, but they don’t want to talk with them.

“The situation is that we wait until after the the European Championship and then will look for the best step.

“Marco still has two years under contract at the GelreDome, so we don’t know if he will leave Arnhem but there isn’t an agreement right now.”

Van Ginkel bagged nine goals and nine assists in 39 appearances across all competitions for Vitesse last season.

Chantome eyes summer switch

According to Sky Sports, Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Clement Chantome is hoping to secure a permanent move away from the Parc des Princes this summer.

Chantome, 25, has been a first-team regular for PSG since breaking into the side in 2006/07, but was overlooked by manager Carlo Ancelotti in the big games, including both legs of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie against FC Barcelona, last season.

The 25-year-old has expressed his desire to play more frequently and play in ‘big matches,’ and would be willing to listen to offers from Bundesliga, English Premier League and Ligue 1 clubs.

“After last season, I feel that I have experienced what I wanted to with the club,” Chantime told France Football.

“It has become easier to make a decision. I want to play more and play in big matches. I want to experience something else. PSG is not my whole life.

“My ambitions? To play in the Champions League, and big matches. I also want to be a candidate for the French national team again.

“The best solution could be to stay in Ligue 1. But England and Germany would be attractive as well.”

Chantome made 34 competitive appearances for Paris Saint-Germain last season, tallying one goal and three assists.

Varela joins Man Utd on five-year deal

Premier League champions Manchester United have confirmed the capture of C.A. Peñarol right-back Guillermo Varela for an undisclosed transfer fee, Sky Sports reports.

Varela, 20, will join United on a five-year contract after the conclusion of the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Turkey next month.

The Uruguay Under-20 international is David Moyes’ first signing as manager of Manchester United.

“I’m very pleased to be a part of this club, one of the best teams in the world,” said Varela.

“As everyone in the world knows, this is a huge club that has won everything and I really hope that continues.”

Varela is expected to deputise for Rafael at right-back next season.
