The Frank Lampard transfer saga is starting to gather speed, and while it is a welcome break from the Cristiano Ronaldo transfer saga, it is ridiculous in its own right.
Despite being told that Lampard is not for sale, following their rejected £7.9 million offer, Inter will continue their pursuit of the player with a £10 million bid, according to The Daily Mail. Chelsea, however, insist that the player will not be allowed to leave.
“We have offered him what we believe to be a very good new contract. He has, for the moment, decided not to accept that contract. Having said that, there is still one year remaining on his contract and we expect and hope that he will honour it. During the course of the year there will still be the opportunity to sign the new contract because the offer that we have made remains on the table.†Said Bruce Buck according to The Times.
It was also thought that Lampard would have the possibility of enforcing the Webster rule and buy out the remaining year of his contract, however that option is now in doubt for the English midfielder.
According to the Daily Mail, Lampard would have had to inform his employers that he is willing to depart via the Webster ruling within 15 days of the team’s final game of the season – something which he has failed to do.
