Aston Villa are closing in on the signing of West Bromwich Albion defender James Chester, according to the Mail Online.
The centre-back, who was part of the Wales squad for this summer’s European Championships has been also linked with a switch to Premier League newcomers Middlesbrough though they failed to meet the Baggies’ £9m valuation.
The move looks set to be completed ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Rotherham United where Roberto Di Matteo’s men will be looking to bounce back from back-to-back defeats.
Chester moved to the Hawthorns just twelve months ago and racked up just eighteen appearances for the club in all competitions.
Prior to his switch to the West Midlands he spent four-and-a-half years at Hull City while he has also had loan spells Peterbrough United, Plymouth Argyle and Carlilse United and began his career at Manchester United, making just one appearance for the latter.
