Chievo sign Fernandes

(GSM) – Chievo have made the loan signing of Gelson Fernandes from Saint-Étienne as they look to strengthen their midfield.

The Switzerland international only made the move to Saint-Étienne 12 months ago after a two-year spell with Manchester City where he showed promise but failed to establish himself as a regular starter.

He is now embarking on a fresh challenge in Italy after joining Chievo on a season-long deal with the option for a permanent transfer next summer.

Chievo, who made a winning start to the new Serie A campaign with a 2-1 victory over Catania at the weekend, will be delighted to add Fernandes to their squad.

The 23-year-old midfielder scored the only goal of the game in Switzerland’s shock victory over eventual champions Spain at the World Cup.
