Chile’s Angelo Henriquez eager to impress Man United

Angelo Henriquez

Chile international forward Angelo Henriquez is relishing the opportunity to win a first-team place at Old Trafford.

Henriquez, who joined United from Universidad de Chile for around £4 million in 2012, is currently on loan at Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb.

The highly-rated 20-year-old, having previously spent time on loan at Wigan Athletic and Real Zaragoza, knows he must impress in Zagreb if he wants to impress United’s coaching staff.

What better way to ‘catch the eye’ than to turn in a standout performance in the UEFA Champions League clash at Celtic on Thursday.

“I don’t think it was a backwards step in my career [joining Dinamo] but a good chance to play and get experience of European football,” Henriquez said.

“Dinamo is a special challenge for me because I know the club aspires to be the best in Croatia and that will help me achieve my goal.

“I have constant contact with people from Manchester United.

“Not [Louis] van Gaal, but people from Carrington, the coaches. They want to know every detail – from the intensity of training here, diet, life in Zagreb. With that amount of care for a year, I know I’m still being followed by United.”

When asked about whether he would be open to joining Dinamo on a permanent deal next summer, the Chilean added: “I heard about this idea but I honestly do not know what to say.

“Should I wait for the end of the season and draw the line and see where we are?

“Basically, I would not mind staying in Dinamo because it’s a great club and if things go well I would love to stay here after the expiry of the loan.”

Henriquez has scored four goals in eight appearances in all competitions for Dinamo Zagreb this season.

Alves set for EPL switch

FC Barcelona right-back Dani Alves will be taking his talents to the English Premier League next season.

The Brazil international, 31, is out of a contract at the end of the season, and has already confirmed he will not sign a new deal with the Catalan side.

“I am moving to England next year,” Alves said, per O Globo.

“I am going to play in the cradle of football. This will be my last year at Barcelona.”

Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United would be the most likely destinations for the Brazilian, but at least one of the aforementioned trio will likely be eliminated from contention if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
