Benfica striker Kostas Mitroglu is the subject of mega-money offer from the Chinese club Tianjin Quanjian, who are willing to fork out as much as €45 million for the Greek international.
A club managed by former Italy international Fabio Cannavaro is keen to add another high-profile footballer to their ranks following the arrivals of Brazil international Alexandre Pato and Belgium midfielder Axel Witsel, according to Abola.
The Chinese club have seen their first offer for the Greek striker rejected and have now returned with an improved offer, hoping that Portuguese giants will sanction a transfer for the Greek international who is under a contract with Benfica until 2020.
Tianjin Quanjian have a week remaining in the transfer window to wrap up the deal as the Chinese market closes on 28 February.
Former Fulham and Olympiakos Piraeus forward Kostas Mitroglu has been in flying form for Benfica over the past two seasons.
Having already netted 11 goals in 18 Primeira Liga appearances, the 28-year-old striker is set to crush his last season’s record of 19 goals in 32 league games.
