Guangzhou climbed to third on the Chinese Super League table on Saturday thanks to a 2-0 away win over Qingdao Jonoon.
Brazilian striker Cleo handed the visitors the lead from the penalty spot after 20 minutes, and Gao Lin made sure of the three points on the hour mark.
The result gives Guangzhou two wins and two draws from their opening four games.
In Saturday’s other game, Shanghai Shenhua improved to fifth courtesy of a 2-1 win over Henan Jianye at the Zhengzhou Hanghai Stadium.
Argentine striker Luis Salmeron fired the visitors ahead from the penalty spot after 26 minutes before Colombian Juan Angulo doubled their lead 11 minutes after half-time.
Brazilian Leandro Netto scored a late penalty to ensure some anxious moments for Shanghai in the closing stages, but they held on to post their second win of the campaign.
