(GSM) – Cristian Chivu has undergone a succesful surgery after he sustained a skull fracture during Wednesday’s match against Chievo. The Internazionale defender was immediately taken to the hospital where he spent the night. Today, scans revealed that the surgery went well.
Chivu was taken to the Borgo Trento hospital in Verona immediately following a clash of heads with Chievo captain Sergio Pellissier just before half time.
The doctors diagnosed a skull fracture and decided to operate the Romanian international right away.
“The patient is alert and this morning’s CAT scan reconfirmed that the operation was a complete success,” said Professor Sergio Turazzi (director of neurosurgery department).
“Everything went well and so we are quite confident that the patient can heal without any problems. It is too early to say when the patient can leave hospital.”
Chivu will remain on the intensive care. “But that’s for privacy reasons,” explained Inter’s chief of medical staff Franco Combi. “He has been calm and serene throughout.
“He has been exceptional. He has remained alert, fortunately we didn’t underestimate the injury and the professionalism and support of the colleagues in Verona has been exceptional.
“When will he be back playing? In these cases, the duty and priority of doctors is the boy’s health.”
