Chivu wants Inter stay
The agent of Inter defender Cristian Chivu has confirmed that his client is interested in signing a new contract at Giuseppe Meazza.
The Romanian defender has less than six months left on his deal with the Neroazzurri, but he has yet to be offered a contract extension by the club chiefs.
That has sparked speculations that Chivu could accept on of the numerous offers already on the table, but his representative reveals that Inter have an advantage over the interested clubs.
“Staying at Inter is our priority,” Giovanni Becali told Il Sussidiario. “We have great respect for Inter, President Massimo Moratti and director Marco Branca.
“We’ll certainly meet up with Inter before the end of this month – we just have to find a date that suits us and Branca.”
The 31-year-old has lost his starting berth with the arrival of Claudio Ranieri and started just nine Serie A games this season.
Napoli keeper in no rush to sign new contract
Napoli keeper Morgan De Sanctis claims that he won’t enter talks regarding a contract extension before end of the season.
The veteran shot-stopper has a contract until June 2013 at San Paolo, but he is in no hurry to sign a new deal.
“My current agreement runs out in 2013, therefore discussing it at this moment in time is not a priority,” De Sanctis told Sky Sport Italia.
“At the end of the season I will sit down with the club and we will calmly discuss the matter.”
The Italian international joined Napoli in an €1.5 million deal from Sevilla in June 2009 and he has since amassed almost 100 Serie A games for the Azzurri.
Despite earning just 4 Italy caps, the 34-year-old is currently considered second-choice keeper in the national team and is expected to be a part of Cesare Prandelli’s Euro 2012 squad.
Robert Koren retires from international football
Slovenia captain Robert Koren has announced retirement from international football on his personal website.
The 31-year-old has enjoyed a fruitful international career, having scored 5 goals in 61 Slovenia caps.
The Hull midfielder announced the decision on his official website, without citing any special reasons for his retirement.
“After long and careful reflection, I have decided to end my career on the national football team of Slovenia,” Koren wrote on his official website.
“This decision is an intensely difficult one for me, as I have always taken great pride in playing for Slovenia and later also captaining our national football team.”
The former West Bromwich midfielder is currently plying his trade at Hull City, where he is enjoying a remarkable season, having scored 9 goals in 29 Championship games.
The player, who also created 6 assists for his teammates, has been a key figure in Tiger’s push for promotion to the Premiership.
