Christian Eriksen agrees to join Manchester United

Christian Eriksen has agreed to join Manchester United as a free agent on a three year contract, as originally reported by David Ornstein of The Athletic and confirmed by Fabrizio Romano. The 30-year-old has already informed both United and Brentford, having spent the second half of 2021/22 with the Bees.

The move is still dependent on the medical, however, and given Eriksen’s history, it’s not exactly expected to be a mere formality.

The former Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder was contracted to Inter Milan when he collapsed on the pitch representing Denmark at the Euros last year due to a cardiac arrest. Having narrowly escaped death, he was fitted with an ICD unit, which prevents him from playing in Italy. Consequently, his contract with Inter was terminated in November, but Eriksen never gave up on getting his career back on track. He signed a six-month contract with Brentford in January and made 11 appearances for Thomas Frank’s side, scoring once and contributing four assists.
