Christian Eriksen, the Denmark international who collapsed due to a cardiac arrest during his country’s opening match of the Euros this year, had his contract with Inter Milan terminated by mutual consent on Friday. Having had an ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) implanted as a result, he is unable to play in the Serie A, so it made no sense for either side to continue with the contract.
There has still been no official confirmation about whether the 29-year-old attacking midfielder will return to professional football, but Martin Schoots, his representative, says the player and his entourage are optimistic on that front.
“It’s too early to say where Christian’s future lies,” Schoots told Sky Sports News.
“Because of special regulations in Italy, which have already existed for decades, the only thing we know for sure is that it will not be in Italy. And it will not be in another continent either, because of family reasons.
“A few clubs have already contacted us some weeks ago. We have to see what the future brings. But it seems bright and that is the most important thing.”
