Danish midfielder Christian Poulsen has revealed that he has decided to quit Ajax at the end of the current campaign.
The 34-year-old will be out of contract in the summer and while he was widely tipped to extend his deal for another year, he has opted to end his spell with the Dutch giants.
Poulsen admits that he doesn’t know what the future has in store for him, as he is also considering retiring from the game.
“It was a difficult decision. Because I am really enjoying myself at Ajax. My family as well,” the Dane told club’s official website.
“I do not know what I’ll do. My feeling sends us to Denmark, but that would mean I would stop playing football altogether.”
Christian Poulsen joined Ajax from Evian two years ago and he has managed to help the Amsterdammers win third and fourth Eredivisie title in a row.
He has made a total of 53 league appearances for the club, scoring the only goal in the 3-2 triumph over ADO Den Haag.
Prior to joining Ajax, Poulsen had featured for Holbaek, FC Copenhagen, Schalke, Sevilla, Juventus, Liverpool and Evian.
