Manchester United are considering replacing David De Gea with Jasper Cillessen of Barcelona amid the problems surrounding the negotiations with the Spain international over signing a new contract, according to Daily Record.
De Gea is about to enter a club-triggered 12-month extension of his current deal, and if a new deal isn’t signed until then, he will be able to talk to clubs outside England about a potential free transfer next summer in January. In order to safeguard against losing their arguably best player overall in the last several years without any compensation, United are considering the option of selling the 28-year-old this summer. Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Real Madrid are all interested in his services.
They are apparently looking at Jasper Cillessen, Barcelona’s second choice between the posts, as a potential replacement. The 30-year-old Dutch international has already expressed his desire to leave Camp Nou in search of regular game-time, being fed up of playing second fiddle to Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
