(GSM) – Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini was delighted by a big second half improvement that fired City to a 3-0 win that lifted them back in fifth place in the Barclays Premier League table.
City ran out 3-0 winners at Eastlands thanks to a hat-trick from Carlos Tevez, as Wigan’s Gary Caldwell was sent off with the score at 0-0 in the second half.
The win sees City climb to fifth in the Premier League table, above Liverpool and two points behind Tottenham in fourth.
With the Blues trying to ensure a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League, Mancini says the result was the most important thing.
“The result was the most important,” said the Italian tactician.
City boss continued, “I think in the second half we played better than the first half.”
Mancini disappointed first half display, “I didn’t like the first half because for me we didn’t play good football.”
“But we changed the tempo, probably after the red card the game was changed”, he added.
The 3-0 scoreline flattered City somewhat after a plucky display from the visitors in the opening period.
But a superb performance from Tevez was the difference between the two sides and Mancini praised the Argentine’s effort.
He praised effort of Tavez, “A good performance because he scored three important goals and we won the game.”
“I am very happy for him and I hope that Manuel (Adebayor) after one month without football can improve for the next games,” he happily explained.
