Manchester City have ruled out bringing in David Villa on loan when the transfer window reopens next month, according to the Telegraph.
The Premier League champions are currently short of options in the forwards department after Stevan Jovetic and Edin Dzeko joined top scorer Sergio Aguero on the side-lines at the weekend leaving teenager Jose Pozo as their only fit recognised striker.
Like Frank Lampard, who is currently impressing on loan under Manuel Pellegrini, David Villa was signed by New York City in the summer.
The former Barcelona and Atletico Madrid man has been turning out for Melbourne City in order to maintain his fitness for the start of the MLS campaign, and while both NYC and Melbourne are owned by City’s Abu Dhabi hierarchy, he won’t be called upon by the Premier League side.
City edged past bottom of the table Leicester City on Saturday afternoon to keep up the pressure on league leaders Chelsea, and can now be backed at 5/2 to retain the title.
