Manchester City have fined defender Kolo Toure six weeks’ wages as a result of his failed drugs test earlier this year.

The fine – thought to be in the region of 740,000 pounds – is the second punishment handed to Toure, with FA banning him for six months in March after ruling he had infringed World Anti-Doping Agency guidelines.

Toure was found guilty of taking a banned substance, said to be one of his wife’s slimming pills.

The statement released by the club on Wednesday read: “Following the conclusion of an internal disciplinary process, Manchester City Football Club can confirm that Kolo Toure has received a fine of six weeks’ wages which relates to doping offences committed by him earlier this year.”

“Kolo accepts the decision and he and the club now wish to draw a line under this matter and focus on the season ahead.”

Toure has made five appearances for City this season after his ban ended, returning in September’s 2-0 win against Birmingham in the League Cup.
