(GSM) – Ian Wright believes having so many Manchester City players in Fabio Capello’s squad can only have a positive outcome for England.
In his column for the Sun, former Arsenal legend Wright wrote: “Six of the final 11 on the pitch in Basel were Manchester City players and this can only benefit both club and country.
“It is a win-win situation. The players will grow together and get better.
“Joe Hart, Joleon Lescott, James Milner, Gareth Barry, Adam Johnson and Shaun Wright-Phillips were the City players who left the field at St Jakob Park with the cheers from England’s fans ringing in their ears.
“In the past, there have been England teams made largely of players from Manchester United, Liverpool and, if you go back to the 1930s, Arsenal.
“The Spanish national team has definitely benefited from having so many players from the same club team. And that number seems to be increasing.
“Now, Victor Valdes, Carles Puyol, Gerard Pique, Andres Iniesta, Xavi, Sergio Busquets, David Villa, Pedro Rodriguez all play for Barcelona.
“While not all of City’s half-a-dozen stars are certain starters for England, I am sure they will all push and encourage each other.”
