The Mirror understands that Manchester City are keen to extend Frank Lampard’s stay at the club, with Yaya Toure set to be part of the Ivory Coast squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Former Chelsea man Lampard joined the Premier League champions on loan from New York City in the summer, and he has gone on to score four goals in six appearances in all competitions under Manuel Pellegrini.
Ivory Coast secured their qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations yesterday, meaning that City are likely to be without Toure at a crucial stage of the season, with the tournament beginning on January 17th – around the same time that Lampard is set to switch to the MLS.
Having won their second league title in three years back in May, City currently sit eight points behind league leaders Chelsea and can now be backed at 11/2 to finish first this time around.
