Manchester City are set to buy Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko in the January transfer window, according to reports in Germany.

The two clubs have reportedly agreed to a fee in the region of 40 million euros for the highly rated Bosnia and Herzegovina international, who could be in the Eastlands as early as next week for City’s clash with Arsenal.

Wolfsburg are 13th on the Bundesliga table, having gone seven league games without a win, and manager Steve McClaren is believed to be preparing himself for an exodus of players next month.

Dzeko has made no secret of his desire to play Champions League football, and City boss Roberto Mancini is an admirer of the 24-year-old’s style of play.

“We have the chance to win the league this year and the decisive factor could be Edin Dzeko,” Mancini is quoted in the Wolfsburger Allgemeine newspaper.

“This player can decide titles and that is why we want him.”

The Guardian newspaper also recently reported that Dzeko had written to a senior executive at the Eastlands club telling him of his desire to play Premier League football

Dzeko won the Bundesliga’s golden boot last season, and has already scored 10 goals from 17 games this term.

In total, he has scored 66 times in 111 games for Wolfsburg.

Earlier, Dzeko admitted harbouring a desire to escape Wolfsburg for a bigger club.

“I don’t want anyone to get the wrong impression: I very much enjoy playing for Wolfsburg,” he told Sport Bild.

“But I also have a dream. I want to play in the Champions League every year.”

AC Milan, Juventus and Bayern Munich were all reportedly in the hunt for the 24-year-old, who joined Wolfsburg from Czech outfit FK Teplice in 2007.
