Bayern Munich were very keen on signing Leroy Sane from Manchester City towards the end of the summer transfer window, with the winger losing some of his importance to Pep Guardiola’s team, and consequently, some game-time. The Bundesliga champions eventually decided to shelve their interest, after Sane suffered a serious knee injury in City’s Community Shield triumph over Liverpool on penalties.
Bayern president Uli Hoeness recently revealed that his club would likely come back for Sane, and SportBild now claim that there has been fresh contact between the two clubs. But while Bayern asked about Sane, City have maintained a firm stance that the 23-year-old German is not for sale. On the other hand, they apparently hinted to Bayern that they would perhaps be willing to part ways with Gabriel Jesus instead.
Jesus arrived to the Etihad in January 2017 on a four-and-a-half year contract initially, but he signed a new one in 2018 for five years. He was supposed to be the long-term successor for Sergio Aguero, but the experienced Argentine has since proven to Guardiola that he cannot be replaced so easily. Guardiola recently expressed his view that keeping both Aguero and Jesus happy was an impossible task.
