Premier League champions Manchester City are preparing a £20 million bid for A.S. Roma defensive midfielder Daniele de Rossi, according to the Daily Mail. This potential acquisition could dramatically tilt the Betfair Premier League title odds in City’s direction.
City boss Roberto Mancini has been a long term admirer of De Rossi, who penned a new five-year contract with his boyhood club in February.
De Rossi is fresh off an absolutely brilliant Euro 2012 campaign with the Azzurri in Poland-Ukraine, starting all six matches for the runners-up.
‘Capitan Futuro’ showed versatility and class at the 2012 European Football Championship, featuring as both a sweeper and a defensive midfielder.
Furthermore, the Azzurri standout started 32 Italian Serie A matches for the Giallorossi last term, tallying four goals and three assists.
Manchester City Exodus
City have yet to make a splash in the summer transfer window, with Owen Hargreaves , Gunnar Nielsen, Stuart Taylor, Wayne Bridge (loan) and Greg Cunningham all having exited the Etihad Stadium.
