City to swap Adebayor for Lennon
Manchester City will try to sign Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon by offering Emmanuel Adebayor in exchange, The Mirror reports.
Roberto Mancini has recently admitted that he wants to sign another winger and he has now set his sights on the England international.
Lennon is considered an important part of the setup at White Hart Lane, but Harry Redknapp could consider the offer if Emmanuel Adebayor is included in the deal.
The Tottenham boss is looking for a new centre forward and has been a keen admirer of the Togolese for quite some time.
Adebayor has been deemed surplus to requirements at Eastlands and this could be a great chance for City to get rid of the unsettled player.
The two clubs have reportedly opened talks about the swap deal that could benefit both clubs and they could soon reach an agreement.
The only obstacle to the deal could present Adebayor’s hefty wage bill, but Harry Redknapp is prepared to go to extreme lengths to get his man.
Liverpool agree to sign Jose Enrique
Newcastle full-back Jose Enrique is set to complete his move to Liverpool after the Reds had a £10 million bid accepted last night.
The Spaniard rejected a new contract offer from Newcastle at the end of last season and soon hinted that he could leave the club this summer.
Despite interest from Liverpool and several other clubs, Enrique looked set to remain at St James Park, that is until he decided to criticize the club’s policy via his Twitter account.
The Magpies soon decided to accept Liverpool’s £10 million offer for the full-back, who is now set to join the Reds, according to Daily Mail.
With Glen Johnson covering the left-back position throughout last season, Kenny Dalglish was desperate to sign a new full back this summer.
King Kenny was tracking Celtic’s Emilio Izaguirre and Porto defender Alvaro Pereira, but he eventually opted for Jose Enrique, with his Premiership experience considered an important asset.
Raul could leave Schalke for free
Bundesliga side Schalke are pondering whether to offer star player Raul an extension to his contract, which expires at the end of the season.
The 34-year-old is by far the highest paid player in the team, as he earns around €7 million per campaign.
With his current contract set to expire in June 2012, the club chiefs are wondering whether to offer him a new deal.
Schalke sporting director, Horst Heldt is not sure that offering the Spaniard a new contract would be in the best interest of the club.
“We must decide what Raul brings to the team in regards to sporting and financial issues,” Heldt told Bild.
Despite finishing last season as team’s top scorer with 19 goals, Raul will be 35 when his current contract expires, so no wonder that Schalke officials are not willing to pay his huge wages any more.
Raul has become a fans’ favourite in a short period of time and has already expressed his desire to extend his current deal, but it remains to be seen whether the fans will manage to persuade the club chiefs into offering the Spaniard a new contract at the club.
