Manchester City are preparing to swoop in for Lyon’s Tanguy Ndombele, according to The Telegraph.
Apparently, manager Pep Guardiola is keen on bringing in the midfielder to serve as competition, and possibly long-term replacement, for Fernandinho. It is the most obvious spot in City’s otherwise impressive squad that arguably needs strengthening as they don’t have a proper alternative for the 32-year-old Brazilian as the defensive midfielder, and they are mulling over a £40million bid for the services of Ndombele.
Guardiola was obviously aware of the problem before the summer transfer window this year, and the Premier League champions came close to signing Jorginho and Fred, but they lost out on both accounts to Chelsea and Manchester United respectively.
The 21-year-old spent a year with Amiens before going initially on loan to Lyon, and after a successful season the transfer was made permanent this year, as the loan deal included an option to buy for a reported figure of €8million.
