Manchester City’s Leroy Sane has been long linked with a move to Bayern Munich. Manager Pep Guardiola revealed earlier that the winger was close to signing a new deal but he changed his mind at the eleventh hour. Now, according to The Telegraph, there is increasing fear in the Etihad dressing room that Sane’s head has been completely turned by the prospect of returning to Germany, which he left when he joined City from Schalke 04 in 2016 for a total of £42 million.
Apparently, City demand £137 million to part ways with the 23-year-old who is currently recovering from a serious knee injury he suffered in the first game of the season. He’s expected back in the team some time in February or March, and will likely have a role to play in the final stretch of the season.
Bayern’s interest hasn’t been cooled by the injury, and the Bundesliga champions are hopeful of snatching Sane for a much lower price in the summer, when he will have entered the final 12 months of his current contract.
City are already considering potential replacements. Real Sociedad’s Mikel Oyarzabal one of them, with City director of football Txiki Begiristein closely related to the Basque club.
