Manchester City suffered a blow on in their push for a European berth on Tuesday with news that striker Craig Bellamy is likely to miss the Premier League run in.

The Wales captain, who arrived from West Ham in January’s transfer window, has missed the last three matches after suffering a knee injury during the UEFA Cup quarter-final first-leg defeat at Hamburg.

City manager Mark Hughes told the club’s website: “Craig has got to have complete rest for two weeks then he comes back for strength work.

“Hopefully he might get the last couple of games, but the probability is that he won’t.”

City are placed 10th, four points behind the seventh place which should ensure a place in next season’s Europa Cup and currently occupied by West Ham.
