Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley has suggested that he will be leaving Old Trafford on permanent basis at the end of the current campaign.
The 25-year-old secured a season-long loan move to Aston Villa on transfer deadline day, and he is now eager to try and kick-start his career at Villa Park.
But, with his current contract due to expire at the end of the season, Cleverley is well aware that he is likely to have played his final game for Manchester United.
“If any footballer gets a bit of stick off their own fans they are going to be hurt. Football is a game of opinions and you can’t please everyone,” Cleverley told reporters.
“I am happy to get away from some of the negativity. Whenever you are not winning trophies at Man United the players are going to get some stick.
“With me being out of contract at the end of the year if I am being honest I don’t think I would play for the club again.”
Tom Cleverley came through the youth ranks at Old Trafford and he was given a chance to command a regular starting berth following a very successful loan spell at Wigan Athletic.
However, the England international never quite managed to prove his worth at Manchester United and his spell with the Red Devils appear to be effectively over.
Cleverley has amassed a total of 69 Premier League appearances, and scored 6 goals in total.
