Tom Cleverley insists he never had any doubts that Manchester United could catch Premier League leaders Manchester City.
The Red Devils are currently second on the table, just two points behind Roberto Mancini’s side, who were beaten for the first time on Monday in their 2-1 defeat to Chelsea.
A win for Sir Alex Ferguson’s men against QPR on Sunday will put them one point clear of City, if only for a few hours, with the Citizens set to welcome Arsenal to Eastlands a few hours later.
“Monday was their first slip-up of the season, but we were always confident we could catch them,” Cleverley said.
“It’s going to be an interesting weekend.”
Cleverley, who still faces time on the sidelines after picking up an ankle injury in October, believes his side have what it takes to bounce back from the recent disappointment following their exit from the Champions League and Carling Cup.
“We’ve got a great team spirit so if anyone can bounce back from disappointment it would be our squad,” he said.
“We’ve had a lot of tough games in a short period of time and we’ve been knocked out of two tournaments, but we are still well placed in the league.”
