BBC Sport has learned that Liverpool defender Sebastian Coates will move to Sunderland on a season-long loan.
The deal is set to be wrapped up well ahead of tonight’s deadline, allowing the talented centre-back to be added to the squad managed by his compatriot Gus Poyet.
Sebastian Coates arrived at Liverpool three years back as one of South America’s hottest prospects, but he never quite made the grade at Anfield.
The Uruguay international has so far amassed mere 12 Premier League appearances, while spending the second part of last season on loan at Nacional.
Coates has featured for Liverpool in pre-season, but he was not in the match squad for any of club’s first three fixtures this term.
The youngster will have a much better chance of getting regular playing time at the Stadium of Light, and maybe a successful loan spell with the Black Cats can even help him revive his Liverpool career.
