PSV coach Phillip Cocu has told of his delight after his side won their ninth Dutch Cup title on Sunday with a 3-0 win over Heracles.
The 41-year-old, who took over the team as caretaker boss in early March to replace the sacked Fred Rutten, was ecstatic following the game and heaped praise on his players after they secured their first cup win since 2004.
“I am very happy, especially with the way we won,” Cocu said. “We put in an excellent and spirited team display. This is a great result.
“We started well and we set the tone from the first moment. We were able to convert our dominance into three fine goals. I think we fully deserved the victory.”
With nine wins in the competition, PSV are the third most successful side in the history of the Dutch Cup. Feyenoord, with 11 titles, are second while Ajax, with 18, lead the way.
Cocu’s side, who are currently fourth in the Eredivisie standings, return to league action on Wednesday when they visit Roda JC.
