Phillip Cocu believes his PSV side must guard against being drawn into a relegation battle after Sunday’s loss to RKC Waalwijk.
An Evander Sno brace condemned PSV to an eighth league defeat of the season, with Cocu’s men slipping to seventh in the Eredivisie.
And, with PSV sitting only seven points above the relegation play-off spots, Cocu is not taking their top-flight status for granted.
“At the moment it can go either way. We are still too volatile. So you have to be honest,” he told De Telegraaf.
After the defeat, PSV are now on 29 points, their lowest amount after 21 matches since 1972-73, ahead of their trip to Cambuur on Wednesday.
Cocu urged his side to tighten up defensively, citing regular lapses as one of their main downfalls this season.
“We must stop giving these sloppy goals away. This should never happen,” he added.
“Once we were a goal down, we failed to break them down, which sums up our season.”
