Real Madrid full-back Fabio Coentrao has vowed to give his best for los Blancos after missing out on a deadline day move to Manchester United.
The La Liga side were prepared to farm out the highly rated defender on loan at Old Trafford, but they eventually pulled the plug on the deal as they failed to sign a proper replacement.
As a result, Coentrao is now set to battle Marcelo for a starting berth at Santiago Bernabeu, and he does not seem to have a problem with how things panned out.
“I want to do better than last season, despite already being at a pretty high level,” Coentrao told O Jogo. “I want to show everyone that I deserve to be at Real Madrid.
”There was this chance to go to Manchester United, but I am at Real Madrid and that’s what matters.”
Fabio Coentrao joined los Merengues in a €30 million deal from Benfica two years back, but he never quite managed to nail down a regular starting berth at the Bernabeu.
The 25-year-old made a total of 36 La Liga appearances for the club, but expressed his dissatisfaction earlier this summer with his treatment in Madrid.
