Cole makes shock Coventry switch

League One side Coventry City have signed former England international Joe Cole on an emergency 35 day loan from Aston Villa, according to Sky Sports.

The thirty-three year old moved to Villa Park on a free transfer in the summer of 2014, and has played just sixteen times in all competitions, with his only goal for the club so far coming in a 1-1 draw at Burnley back in November.

His only appearance so far this season came as a substitute in the League Cup win over Notts County back in Notts County.

Prior to his move to the Midlands Cole had a second spell with West Ham – the club where he began his career, while he has also played for Chelsea and Liverpool and had a year-long loan spell with Ligue 1 side Lille in 2011/12.

He won fifty-six caps for his country and was part of the squads that attended the 2002, 2006 and 2010 World Cup finals.
