Cole: Newcastle must spend

“If you don’t invest, you are going to struggle. Whatever happens, in January they are going to have to invest.

“There are a lot of teams around Newcastle United at the moment – that could get see them get drawn into a relegation battle, and they don’t want that.”

Those are the words of Newcastle United legend Andy Cole, as the speculation continues over what could happen in the January transfer window. The Magpies have been struggling to make much of an impact in the Premier League with the squad that they currently have and it doesn’t seem as if it’s going to get any easier for them, with conflicting reports over whether or not Mike Ashley is willing to fork out the cash that Rafa Benitez needs.

There are teams that have been in far worse positions in the top flight at this point in the campaign, but even so, Newcastle have a lot of work to do if they want to drag themselves out of their current predicament.
