Coloccini pledges future to Newcastle

Argentine defender Fabricio Coloccini explains that he is eager to sign a new long-term deal with Newcastle.

The 30-year-old has a contract until June 2013 at St James Park and is currently negotiating a contract extension.

The club chiefs are doing their best to keep hold of their star player and the first signs have been more than positive.

The Argentine is adamant he wants to stay at the club and help them reach new heights.

“Of course I want to stay,” Coloccini told The Shields Gazette. “We’re speaking. It’s a normal process. Everything’s OK.”

The experienced defender has had a rough start to his career at Newcasle and was often criticized for his defensive lapses, but has since developed into a key player at St James Park.

Coloccini has been a real rock in Newcastle’s defence over the last two seasons and he has been one of the most consistent performers for the Magpies.

The Argentine defender started all but one Premier League this term, but failed to get on the scoresheet.
