Corinthians forward Stiven Mendoza has joined New York City FC on a season-long loan, the Brazilian club have announced.
The MLS side enjoyed a winning start to the new season, recording a 4-3 triumph over Chicago Fire and they expect the Colombian to further improve their attacking department.
Mendoza had begun his career with Envigado and he enjoyed loan stints with America Cali and Cucuta Deportivo before moving to Deportivo Cali.
He surprisingly left the Colombian giants to move to India, but that eventually proved to be a good decision as it soon earned him a move to Corinthians.
After scoring just three goals in 18 league appearances for the Brazilian outfit, Mendoza was loaned back to Chennaiyin, where he impressed to score 13 goals in 16 outings.
The 23-year-old now gets a chance to prove his worth in Major League Soccer and maybe find an alternative route to Europe in years to come.
