Competition: MLS
Market: Columbus Crew double chance
Odds: 4/7 @ 888sport
With a golden chance to make another statement and extend their buffer at the top of the Eastern Conference, Columbus Crew will make the trip to Yankee Stadium in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Starting with the hosts, crashing out of the MLS is Back tournament thanks to a 3-1 drumming against Portland earlier in the month, New York City made their Eastern Conference return in worrying fashion. Continuing on what has been a woeful start to the interrupted new campaign, the pressure already appears to be on new boss Ronny Deila. Watching their bitter cross-town rivals New York Red Bulls pick up a 1-0 win on the road last week, the one-time Celtic boss has seen his side collect just three points over their opening six appearances and are already sat firmly at the foot of the table. Hit with another 1-0 defeat when they faced off against Tuesday’s guests back in March, the Sky Blues should be in for another tough test in midweek.
As for the visitors, while the mood around Yankee Stadium might be at a real low after a woeful start to the new campaign, Columbus have continued to gain a long list of admirers. Marking their return to Eastern Conference duties by laying down another marker, Caleb Porter’s men landed a 3-0 romp against Chicago and have stormed their way to top spot. Yet to taste defeat in any of their opening six appearances and collecting 16 points on a glittering run, the Crew have also gone from strength to strength on their travels. Including a 1-0 win away at former champions Atalanta, the midweek guests have lost just a single matchup on the road since August 2019. With NYCFC losing each of their last four matchups on home soil, we’re backing what should be another fruitful outing for a high-flying Columbus.
