Commons signs new Celtic deal

Celtic F.C. midfielder Kris Commons has signed a new two-year contract with the Scottish Premier League champions.

Celtic F.C. midfielder Kris Commons has signed a new two-year contract with the Scottish Premier League champions.

Commons, who had been linked with a move to Bolton Wanderers during the January transfer window, was set to become a free agent in the summer, but has now committed to the club until June 2017.

“I’m absolutely delighted to have signed this new contract with the club,” said Commons. “I’ve loved my time at Celtic and this is where I want to continue playing my football.

“The club is in a great place – we’re still in four competitions this season and already have a cup final to look forward to, and I want to continue playing my part in bringing more success to the club.

“I’m also delighted to continue playing in front of these magnificent fans, who have been brilliant with me and my family from the day I joined Celtic.”

Celtic manager Ronny Deila added: “I am really pleased that Kris has committed his future to the club.

“He is someone who has already made a great contribution to Celtic and I am sure he will continue to be a very important player for us as we work hard to bring our fans the success they deserve.

“We have had a good week after reaching the League Cup final and following the fantastic signings of Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Steven, Kris’s contract extension is even more great news for the club and our supporters.”

Commons has tallied four goals and four assists in 16 league appearances, including 11 starts, for Celtic this season.

Klopp will not resign

Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp has insisted he will not resign following the club’s shock 1-0 defeat to Augsburg on Wednesday night.

Dortmund (4-4-11), who are currently bottom-of-the-table, has scored a Bundesliga-low 18 goals through 19 league matches this season.

It is quite clear that the exit of Robert Lewandowski in the summer has played a large role in BVB’s demise this term, butKlopp is convinced his side can turn it around during the final months of the campaign.

“My battery is completely full after the winter break and is not empty after just two games,” said Klopp. “There is no chance I will resign.

“I am convinced of our mission in the second half of the season. We need to build on the good. We just have to be more brave in all the right moments than we were last night.”
