Confederations Cup preview: Egypt – United States

Following their shock victory over Italy, Egypt actually have a good chance of making it to the semi finals of the Confederations Cup. A win over the USA might just be enough to achieve that goal.

While against Brazil Egypt showed to possess great skills up front, against Italy it was mostly Essam El Hadary that left quite an impression. The goalkeeper stopped one effort after the other and against the United States, his solid performance might once again be the key to success.

The Americans have little left to play for and it remains to be seen whether they are actually motivated enough to spend much energy on this game at all. Following two defeats and a 1-6 goal record, the US may well just be thinking of flying home and returning to wife and kids.

Although dominant in their respective continents, Egypt and the USA have never met before, not even in a friendly.

The match that may or may not lead Egypt to the semi finals of the Confederations Cup starts at 8:30pm local time with Rustenburg’s Royal Bafokeng Stadium as venue.
