Deportivo Alaves have completed the signing of Joselu Mato from Newcastle United for an undisclosed fee, both clubs and the player himself have confirmed.
Despite successfully surviving in the Premier League, Newcastle are stranded in the middle of huge uncertainty regarding their near future. The situation surrounding the club ownership seems rather murky at the moment, Rafa Benitez has left his role of manager after his contract expired and joined Chinese side Dalian Yifang, and they’ve lost the services of Ayoze Perez who has moved to Leicester City. Now they’ve lost Joselu as well.
After two years at the St James Park and 46 appearances for the Magpies, the 29-year-old forward has signed a three-year contract with the La Liga side, who believe their attacking line is now significantly stronger.
Joselu took the opportunity to thank Newcastle fans for their support and expressed his opinion that the stadium, club, the city in the north-east of England and its people are “incredible”. He also wished them all the best for the upcoming season.
